A sunny delight would be the best way to describe this band, if it wasn't synonimous with a sickly drink from the 90's full of artificial sweetners and chemical preservatives. The Warm Spells to the contrary offer an entirely natural and organic form of refreshment derived from a unique blend of semi-acoustic guitars rhythms, harmonic vocals and electro-synthesis.
Could there be a more fitting soundtrack to acompany the 2013 British heat wave?
Stringstone sound like the dreamy soundtrack to a moody ultra-stylistic sci-fi movie. Deep, wide moving spaces, sequenced synth patterns and bass guitar solos are common characteristics.
There's a clear melodic and melancholic Indie / New Romantic influence somewhere in-between Brian Eno and Joy Division, but its all packaged together such that its veering toward Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross (The Social Network soundtrack), Clint Mansell (Moon soundtrack) and College feat. Electric Youth ('Real Hero' from the movie Drive).
Rooty at The Telegraph on Brixton Hill - now that was a proper night out. Basement Jaxx's semi-regular club night organised to gauge reaction to tracks hot from their studio and mixed into a progressive breakbeat house set; Taho and The Stanton Warriors frequent support DJs.
Trueloop's debut double A side is definitely in that ball park, but a bit slower at around 110bpm. There's a clear Moombahton influence to the rhythm section and the kind of funky-electro musical quirkiness you'd associate with Daft Punk or Mr.Scruff.
We R in U's sound could be described as psychedelic pop electronica. Guitars and drums play mostly melodic, pleasant and unobtrusive tunes, that before long start veering in a curious, slightly bizarre direction.
Its a trip pop journey that seems to be telling a story that everything's fine on the surface, but all is not what it seems. Definitely not melancholy, but not your usual pop either. A bit Jim Noir maybe?
There's a singer you may have heard of called Juana Molina. Once a well known TV actress in Argentina, she now makes far out hypnotic electrofolk songs.
This analogous Bjork from Buenos Aires inspired temasius to create this beautiful debut e.p. Relax and let these evolving textures and complex intricate rhythms take you on a celestial journey into serenity. Abstract ambient at its very best. And check out 'Malheirdo' and 'Micael' my favourite tracks from Juana, the original laid-back Latin folk-scape pioneer.
Fast, loud, edgy, off-beat electro-ska disrupted by ultra-dubby quarter-step intervals. Choppy guitars, crispy drums besieged by maverick synth sequences, while multi-tap delays patterns feedback into distant clouds of distortion.
The unforeseen random corruption possibly resembles the avant-guard Micachu And The Shapes on Rough Trade and sometimes veers towards Battles on Warp, but the overall genre is closer to ska and dub than indie or abstract.
This e.p wouldn't sound out of place in a Wes Anderson movie, like Bottle Rocket or The Royal Tenenbaums, where there's a degree of comedy but the underlined mood is sincerity and innocence.
The music was created by a large array of mostly orchestral instruments and in classical terms these compositions could be described as fairly elementary. But the results are pure and harmonious with a touch of quirkiness to lighten the mood, not that dissimilar to The Penguin Cafe Orchestra.
Emulsion is the debut feature film from writer director Suki Singh. Its a psychological thriller about a man searching for his wife, who has vanished in a car park.
Trevor Masterson's soundtrack is a haunting, passionate and disturbing journey into paranoia and self discovery. Scary, dark yet moving.
